Description

Kay Kawaguchi, a shin-issei/sansei, describes the pre-war immigration journeys of her family and her husband's family, her husband's experiences while incarerated at Rohwer, and her own experiences in Japan during and after WWII. She also recalls her arrival in the U.S. in 1970 on a temporary visa and the circumstances that led to her eventual marriage and permanent residence in Chicago. A long-time employee at the Chicago Shimpo and the Japanese American Service Committee, she reflects on her community-centered work and shares her hopes for the future.
